A Sunflower

We grew 2 sunflowers from bird seed, just for fun.
It is not a big one. The ones we buy to plant are probably Franken flowers like so many things today.

This is likely a more natural sunflower as it is supposed to be (just my theory due to its size).

They are fun to watch bloom.
Then the center darkens.
Normally 8 legged things really freak me out. However with the vibrant color of this flower resident, my discomfort is quite low.
We believe this is the green lynx. A welcome visitor as these are used in agriculture to control the bad insects. Since little ants were crawling up and down the stalk, this little guy ate well.
I hope you enjoyed the changes of this sunflower.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

    1. Thank you Tanza. It is the little green spider on there that is eating the insects. We have some cool carnivores plants but I have not got around to blogging about them yet.

  4. I think that everyone loves sunflowers! And perhaps they will help you to overcome your aversion to some of the insect life they support. You dabble in many things, Val, thereby having an interesting and fulfilling life I am sure.

  11. that was fun to see the progress! I haven't seen one up close since a few years ago when the county came in and mowed down or pulled all the bushes - wild or not...sunflowers or not... and just after they had a beautiful growing season. Why they did this I have no idea. It was indiscriminate i think. Learned something by reading about your bug.

    1. The sunflower is so whimsical. That sounds so sad that nature was plowed down like that in your area. That would have bothered me too. I am sure there was a good reason for it.
