First Presbyterian Churchyard

A local suggested that we visit of the First Presbyterian Churchyard in Columbia, SC.
We are locals now but still act like tourists, constantly discovering new (to us) gems.
In 1798, this cemetery was established as Columbia's first burial ground.
The headstone that struck me to the most was this one that reads "laborious, self-denying, benevolent and just, he was useful, happy and honored".
Here one will find tombstones from the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the Mexican War (1846-1848), and the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Various other notables rest here as well. A brochure is available on site pointing out many of them.
The church itself is a beauty to gaze upon.
Many stunning plot fences are throughout the cemetery.
Numerous headstones show their age so gracefully.

Nature is gorgeous here too.

A lovely place to wander and appreciate.

If you go, located at 1324 Marion Street in Columbia, SC.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val
