Wear Hardware is a jewelry shop of cool handmade pieces using, you guessed it, hardware!
I had the treat of testing out one of the jewelry kits for these neat dangles.
The kit comes with a detailed instruction sheet and all the components needed.
I loved that there was some wiggle room for creativity, not having to create them a specific way.
After laying out how I wanted them to piece together, it was time to attached everything using pliers.
Once the unique chains were put together they were affixed to the ear wires provided.
Here is how they look on. It is not easy to show how the dangles look but you get the idea of length and width here.
If are you looking to try your hand at making some jewelry, stop by Wear Hardware to shop for kits. Or if you just want to buy some finished jewelry for yourself or as a gift, this is a great shop to browse!
Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your week! ~Val

A Shabby Chic Craft
We have this hook over the bathroom window that I had an urge to decorate. So I saved a can.
I did make a trip to the craft store for a big fluffy white flower. I cleaned off the can and punched 2 holes on opposite sides for hanging.
I taped off the can so it would be ready for painting as well as cleaned off the hook which was a clashing black.
After spray painting I put some natural rope through the holes tying inside.
This was not easy since it was fraying the rope while trying to get it through. I probably should have used an awl to smooth it! Since the ends would not be visible and the piece would be lightweight I didn't worry about perfection. I added some glue to the knots for security.
I pulled some goodies out of my crystal stash and made stems by twisting the wire. These did not need to be perfect either. Lastly I arranged the crystals around the flower to hang.
Now we have a cute decoration when looking up at the window! The cost of the craft was only $2.99 (for the flower) and the rest of the supplies were on hand.
Thank you for stopping by! Have a great week ahead. ~Val

An Upcycled Mirror
I was in need of an accessorizing mirror for the bedroom. This perfect size was found at Savers for $2.99.
I had never been to a Savers before but there is 1 nearby conveniently on the way to Home Depot (a store we frequent these days). I was amazed by some of the fantastic second hand goodies and super low prices!
Since our bedroom is very white and beige I started by painting it white.
I still had no concept in mind but thought about using these materials.
These are grandma's old clip on earrings that I never got around to posting on eBay. This idea turned into a failure with the decorative metal pieces though since I think I was using the wrong adhesive!
Determined to not make a trip to the craft store to buy more stuff, I foraged around the house finding this natural rope used as a border.
Then I added the vintage earrings!
It is not perfect, but I love how it came out and that I was able to show off the old earrings rather than passing them on to a stranger. The bonus was it only cost me $2.99!
You can see our bedroom chandelier in the reflection which we will sadly be replacing with a ceiling fan light fixture soon. Unfortunately comfort is more important than beauty in my world!
Thank you for stopping by. Wishing you a beautiful week ahead. ~Val

Recycling to Create a Votive Holder
Votive Holder
We had used up a couple of salsa jars that screamed votive holders to me! So far I have played with one.
This gold clay is odd to work with since it streaks darker tones. However I thought it would be perfect for decorating the jar.
Rolling out strips is very relaxing.
After baking the clay I went through my stash and decided to cut several pieces of this ribbon yarn to hide the top where the lids screws on. It complements the color of the clay perfectly.
I was going for something that would give off a lot of light and also create cool patterns on the wall and ceiling. It really only creates neat lighting on the table but I love how much light it gives off with a candle flickering!
A little tip I learned for removing the labels was a 50/50 combo of vegetable oil and baking soda stirred into a paste. The labels peeled off easily but the residue left behind would not scrub off! I also tried rubbing alcohol. The paste was the one thing that worked. I let it sit on the jars for about 5 minutes and the residue scrubbed right off!
