During a recent visit to the Columbia Museum of Art in SC, we were lucky enough to stumble upon Art in Bloom by the Ikebana International Chapter 182.
Floral sculptures are inspired by works of art at the museum. This below was was based on a piece by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.
This is odd with the Campbell soup but that is because this sculpture is based on a work by Andy Warhol.
Mural by Jackson Pollack was on display at the museum during this time inspiring the piece below.
I neglected to take a note on the inspiration of each but I believe below was inspired by a Jasper Johns hanger piece.
The museum has been recently renovated inside and it is beautiful! As you can see through the windows, they are still working on the side entrance which is going to be a beautiful courtyard hopefully ready for spring!
The word ikebana, by the way, means the Japanese art of flower arranging. It translates as "living flowers". Love!
So there was also a variety of Japanese inspired pieces to envy.
Now I would love to score a piece of cool driftwood to use as a planter.
A very enjoyable experience.
Future exhibitions of this Ikebana International Chapter will be on our radar! It is an organization I never knew existed until now.
I hope you enjoyed these unique displays. This must have been fun for the participating members since modern art can be quite quirky!
I hope you enjoy this sampling of floral beauties!
Thank you for stopping by. ~Val
