Endicott Park With A New Camera

I got a new toy! This is the Sony Alpha 5000. It comes with a 16-50mm lens and if desired, I could purchase another lens for added depth. Until now, I have only had a point and shoot so this is a big, intimidating deal for me!
So I've been playing around with stills only to get my bearings.

Endicott Park
Endicott Park is in Danvers, Massachusetts. It is a great family place with a huge playground for the kids and barn animals for them to check out.

I went off the beaten path to soak up some nature. My visit was towards the end of April and was my first viewing of flowers this year!
There is a bit of swampiness here too.
It was a beautiful day of reflections in the water. The camera does a great job picking up colors in nature as I see them (usually a problem with the point and shoot).
I only explored a fraction of the 165 acres.
There are stunning trees here.
Below is an old weeping beech tree.
I must go back in the summer when everything is showing life!
It was my first sighting of crocuses!
This pony was quite far from me and the photo was taken with the lens completely zoomed in. Not bad.
Same goes for this bird.
With my old point and shoot, these type of photos did not come out to great!

How great is this tunnel carved from a tree? If I was a kid, I would have been all over this even though it looks like splinter city!
I'll be back next week with part II which is a beautiful historical mansion and gardens (although dead at the time) on site where weddings and other events are held.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a great week ahead! ~Val

  1. love the new toy and some really great pics Val!

  2. congrats on the new camera! hooray! :) love the blues in these photos and the trees! nice place!

  3. Congrats on your new camera, I hope you'll have lots of fun! That hollow tree looks amazing, and the tree in the fourth photo of the park, looks like it has an eye with an eyebrow in it (just above the middle). I don't know if anyone else could spot it too, might be my imagination :-)

  4. Looks like you're going to have loads of fun with your new toy :) And that last photo is especially lovely: great composition! There's just something really... visually appealing about it :)

  5. I'm sooooo jealous!!! You did exactly what I would have done if I had gotten a nice camera like that. I'd either hit the trails or go find some architecture. You are going to have so much fun. The photos you have here turned out beautiful and I can't wait to see more!

  6. Ooh, looks like you are having fun! Some lovely photos so far. The croci are so pretty.

  7. Hi Val,

  8. Congrats on the new camera! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon and then you'll never want to go back to a point and shoot again :)
The area looks fascinating and yay for flowers! I'm always excited when I see spring flowers after a loooong winter!
Have fun with your new "toy" :)

  15. Congrats on the new toy! I just have a point and shoot as well, but it takes pretty nice photos. And I use my iPhone a lot. I can't wait for the day when I can get a nice DSLR and play with it.

Your pictures of the park are amazing! I love the one with tree tunnel. I think you're right about it being splinter city, though. =0)

Hope you have a great week!

  16. You got a great camera. Have fun! The nature images are so serene.

  17. una camara estupenda, la ultima foto es magnifica

  18. I am so jealous of your new camera! in a good way of course. Have fun with it!!

  19. Congrats on the new camera. It does a really nice job zoomed in! I miss my old Canon that had an awesome zoom. My new one just doesn't do the trick. And that's great that it picks up colors nicely...another thing my camera has a hard time with. I never can get a sunset/sunrise to come out just right.

  20. Woo hoo! So happy for you, my friend :) What a fun new toy and I know you will put it to good use. Happy picture taking :)
