House Update

Thank you all for your good luck wishes last week! Our offer was accepted on the rehab house, however when we had the house inspected on Wednesday we decided to back down since we felt it was more than we could handle. Oh well. It was fun to have that rehab fantasy for a short period of time!

The house had multiple back up offers so the seller will have no problem getting another buyer. Unfortunately it will likely go to a contractor who will use poor quality materials and hide problems that need to be addressed. Then they will sell the home at a large profit and the next buyers will have to deal with issues in the future! Jim and I avoid looking at flipped houses for this reason. We really wanted to bring this house back to life the right way!

I did take more photos. We wanted to accent the home with more black to give her curb appeal.
I ate a bunch of concord grapes that are on the property while there. They taste just like Welch's grape juice!
The vintage wall paper is fabulous!

 So aren't the light fixtures!
This one is an original gas light fixture. Rare to still see today!
I love the original moulding which is in amazing shape!
This vintage stove comes with the house!
Well we are back to the drawing board with house hunting. We'll see how this coming week goes! We plan on viewing a few more homes.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

  1. Ahh...well. The third time's the charm :)
How sad that a contractor will probably get rid of the wallpaper and original light fixtures...

  5. Oh! so sorry it didn't work out, but having gone through all this myself I do understand taking on too much renovation! We did the same with the first 2 offers we had in SF before buying our first home. All those details really are gorgeous! all the details (and that old stove) so remind me of our place in SF

  6. what great lights. I've always wanted to buy an old house to refab. But it costs too much money, so I satisfy myself with one of those flip the home shows. Good luck on your search.

  7. It's a shame there was too much work for you to do in the house but I'm sure the right one is out there somewhere. Interesting wallpaper and light fittings - some people would pay a fortune for those!

  10. Awww, I'm sorry to hear this, Val, but I also understand how older homes can become a real financial drain.
I just know you will find another soon.

  13. Sorry to hear about the house, but it sounds like a smart choice. It does have so many fun old features. Love that there are grapes on the property...makes me think of wine :)

  14. Aww, I'm sorry to hear about the poor inspection results. :-( We considered buying an old farmhouse in the spring, but it was going to be a lot more maintenance than we were looking for as young professionals, so I totally get it. You'll find something!

  18. I am sorry my friend! But, you and your man will find the right place! I hate people who are house flippers! Because, like you said, most don't address the problems!

  19. Sorry this one didn't work out. Last thing you want is for your home to become something you hate or regret. Dust yourselves off, keep looking, you might just run into the 'perfect' house today. Nik
