We had another big thing done to our house. This was the boring job of replacing some remaining old electrical wiring. Something great resulted unexpectedly. Sconces!
Before we had this hideous broken light fixture overhead on the front porch.
This was on old wiring and the electrician thought he would be able to replace the wiring. We purchased a new light to replace this one. However when he attempted to do so, he realized it was near impossible to get through some beams.
Then he said he could do sconces are each side of the front door. This looks way classier and goes with the period of the house beautifully!
Another thing that concerned us was electrical wires outside with tree branches sitting on them. If we lost power, I would be out of business! So we called the electric company and they sent out their tree service to clean it up.
We did get left with the trees since their only job is clearing the lines.
Luckily they came out when they did because a problem of burnt wire was discovered due to the friction of the branches on the lines. So the same day the electric company came out and replaced all our wiring outside. This work was all free to us. Well not really free since we pay quite a bit for electricity each month!
No more electrical worries inside or outside!
We added flowers for some color. I'm so happy with the black and white porch!
Jim has been super busy with ceiling fans. A total of 5!
This is my office one. I'm not a huge fan of the exposed bulbs (kind of ugly and a dust magnet) but I need as much light as possible to come from the fixture.
Then for the bedrooms we chose to put the same one in each of them.
The brushed nickel goes perfectly with the radiators' finish combining antique with modern comfort.
I am impressed by everything we have done so far since we have only been here for 5 months. This includes the roof, chimney, electrical, ceiling fans and lots of little projects.
Thank you for stopping by! Wishing you a great week ahead. ~Val
The sconces look lovely and seem to fit right into the black and white theme! The lights in my home office aren't pretty, but they are extra bright :) I'm glad the electrical wiring got fixed rapidly at your place! We've had workers fix the roof these past two days, as it was leaking due to the heavy rainstorms.
ReplyDeletesuch lovely new details Val! it is so fun to make those little tweaks here and there that make it feel like your home
ReplyDeletereally like your front porch. i have sconces at my entrance, too. i like them. ceiling fans are a must in texas. glad you've got a good set going there.
ReplyDeleteYou were so busy and you have done a lot these past 5 months. The house is a gem!
ReplyDeleteYou've been so busy and your house is so beautiful! You should keep the tree branches for some projects. I used my Christmas tree branches to display my jewelry.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday!
Your porch looks lovely especially with that burst of colour from the geraniums :D
ReplyDeleteYour front porch is GORGEOUS! But I must confess it took me awhile to figure out that you were talking about SCONCES. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how redoing the old electrical wiring resulted in your getting tea biscuits. Oops, a little typo in the first paragraph, LOL!
ReplyDeleteAll your work has been done good and perfect. They looks very beautiful...
ReplyDeleteI was trying to work out what scones had to do with electric lights. You've got a little typo in your first paragraph :) Lovely image though. I thought you'd made them for your electrician. Your porch is fabulous! Well done for everything you have achieved so far.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, dear Val!!! :)))
Besos, desde EspaƱa, Marcela♥
Lots of progress in your gorgeous house! I must confess I learned a new term 'sconces' light fixtures on walls ;)

ReplyDeleteWow! Your house is coming along beautifully! It's one of the most charming that I've seen. Your porch, I'm so jealous. You have really turned this place into the perfect home. I'm glad you got the electrical situation straightened out. It may be boring stuff, but just think of all the stuff that could have happened. Look forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing how you're making your house into a home. When I was a kid I thought I would have a front porch when I was going to be a grown-up. They look so charming. Especially with a nice rocking chair. I can imagine myself sitting on one with a good book and a glass of lemonade. They aren't very common in the Netherlands though!
ReplyDeleteThe transformations have turned out lovely! Your front porch looks so inviting! great job!
