So I have always wanted to try dragon fruit but since they are usually around $6 a piece, I always held back.
Then I walked by these at 2 for $4! So I thought I would share our experience in case anyone else is curious about these pretty looking things in the grocery store.
Jim and I youtubed how to cut these. You want to wait for browning on the tips.
Then slice in half.
Then the skin can be easily peeled off.
Clean off any of the pink left from the skin.
Then dice and consume.
While I strive to keep my blog a happy, positive place I have to say this was a great disappointment for us! The fruits we bought had no flavor. An expensive fruit with no flavor?
As you can imagine looking at the flesh, it does have the consistency of kiwi but it does not pack the same punch, or any punch for that matter!
Oh well. Live and learn.
Thank you for stopping by! ~Val
It seems that dragonfruit are all about the visuals, not taste . . . thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up, Val. I've never bought one because of price & now I'm glad I didn't.
ReplyDeleteReally? That's really interesting! I thought it would have been sweet and juicy! Thanks Val!!! Hope everything is well! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI bought one when they went on sale too and found that they just aren't worth the price as well. Yes, they are pretty, but there was a complete lack of flavor. Just sweet. I'm glad to know that you found your experience similar. Well, I hate that you were disappointed, but I'm glad to know that there's not something I missed when we tried it too.
ReplyDeleteI think it's to do with transport. I had loads of these in Vietnam (where they're from) and they were delicious - the best fruit I've ever had. I don't bother buying them here (England) though as they are tasteless.
ReplyDeleteI have bought those in the market over here. We drank juice made from them. I don't remember it being particularly exciting but they look good!
ReplyDeleteCan't say I've tried them …
ReplyDeleteInteresting to read your thoughts and views.
All the best Jan
