This Week's Blog Post

I hope everyone in Hurricane Sandy’s path made out ok. Somehow my neighborhood was spared from losing power and overall Massachusetts was really lucky. I really feel for those in NJ and NY who still do not have electricity and gas in the area has run out. It is horrible!

New Findings
I have added new gold and silver plated findings to the shop including various headpins, beads, beading hoops and crimp covers.
Less people are working with the precious metals these days due to their high cost and not being able to resell fine pieces in a poor economy. Available at Miss Val's Creations.

Pinterest
If you are wondering if Pinterest works as a marketing tool I got confirmation this week that it does! I had posted a purple awareness ribbon lanyard there that since sold.
I received an e-mail if I would be making more so I did and now the lanyard is on its way to Illinois.

Nevins Manor
Nevin Manor is another gorgeous building in my town. This was built in 1906 as a nursing home and now operates as an assisted living home.
I always have to look when I drive by because it has such a presence on a hill along with those gables.
I don’t know the technical term for these tower features but I know they were used for military purposes on castles. Why does a nursing home need these? It certainly adds to the character!

Election Day is finally here Tuesday! It is driving me nuts so I am looking forward to it being over. I have been avoiding Facebook (with the exception of my business page) after seeing things I disagree with. I do feel politics should be kept to oneself unless you have a relationship with someone you like to have healthy (not heated) discussion with.  Either way the election goes is sure to bring on more drama so I will probably continue to avoid Facebook!
Don’t forget to change your clocks tonight! This is when the reality of shorter days really kicks in! Not fun.
Trick or Treating was postponed to tonight! This on the other hand is fun!

Have a great week. I heard something about a possible nor’easter this coming week (that is a crazy storm with lots of wind and rain or snow). These typically involve power and cable outages as well. We just had a hurricane so hopefully this forecast changes!!!! ~Val

  1. The plated findings are a great idea giving the economy. And they still look so pretty :)
That's great to know about Pinterest! And congrats on the sale!
The buildings in your town are so stunning. We don't have anything like that around here!
I hope the forecast is wrong and you're safe and sound this weekend :)

  2. I'm so glad to hear you're okay after the hurricane, Val!
Congrats on the sale through Pinterest :) I'm on there, but I haven't really marketed my items there, although it seems other people have pinned my items on their boards!
Nevins Manor looks great! I wouldn't mind living there in my old age :)
We had our time change last week already!
    Happy weekend!!

  3. Beautiful blue skies on those pic you took Miss Val and the buildings themselves are gorgeous of course. Hemet was considered a community for retirement until the 1960's when its starting growing, I don't think we have a three story building here lol!!

I also hate political campaigns :/

    Stay dry!

  5. Val, Glad the hurricane didn't hurt your area of MA. We were very lucky where I am as well, we had no trouble at all, just broken tree branches. Our only problem right now is the gas shortage due to lack of deliveries. I'm sure that will iron itself out in the upcoming days though.

Ok, I've always wondered about pinterest. I've had some people pin some of my artwork but maybe it is time for me to open my own account. You have inspired me.

The manor is gorgeous....I could look at the beautiful old building all day long. Glad you are safe.

  8. I'm so happy you are okay. I worry so much about others who are affected by hurricane Sandy. I hope Nor'easter will leave you alone as well. That's good to hear about Pinterest for marketing. I'm glad you're avoiding FB. I have a few classmates who write a lot. I just keep scrolling past their posts. I'm a Jehovah's Witness so I chose to be neutral. I don't believe that man can solve earthly problems or rule the earth. My husband has the driving time to listen to talk radio and informs me what's happening in the world of politics. We only have Apple TV so I'm glad he's telling me. It's important to know what's happening. Sorry about my rant. I just feel comfortable telling you my story. Have a great week and let me/us (other bloggers) know what dishes to start making for cooler temps. Something with pumpkin sounds good. Someone I met at Trader Joe's says to de-seed the pumpking cube it with skin on, steam it and freeze in cubed w/ skin on perhaps, then defrost it (remove sking) add it to stir fry's. You can puree it for desserts or waffles and pancakes. Yum, sounds delicious!

    1. I just made a batch of granola muffins I usually make but used canned pumpkin and nutmeg in the batter. They taste like fall and are so delicious!!!

  11. I hope the forecast improves for you! Your lanyard is lovely, congrats on the sale, and it's good to know that you have such high quality findings. The nursing home definitely has character! I'm glad you're okay and I hope the power stays on.

  12. Congrats on your lanyard sales. It's a pretty cool lanyard, so I'm sure it will keep selling. It's a bummer that precious metals are so expensive these days, but offering non precious and precious is a great idea. I hope all stays well in your neck of the woods and the nor'easter is not so bad!

  13. Congrats on your sale via Pinterest. You never know how people discover your work. Once I made a sale via Flickr. It was great! And I have to agree with you about all this political hoopla on Facebook. I dreaded browsing my feed because of the things people I knew were saying. Makes you wonder sometimes. Glad you were safe from the storm and hope you have a great weekend ahead.
