The Aventures of Settling in a New Home!

It's been 2 and half weeks already in the new house and it was been entertaining!

Here is our first piece of furniture. Ok, its not exactly furniture but it gets sat on often!
It was a blessing in disguise to find water around the base of the toilet after a couple of days. The toilet that was there was obnoxious for lack of a better word. It had the LONGEST and LOUDEST flush of any toilet on the planet. I'm not kidding!

Our new throne is lovely. You are getting a glimpse of our outdated full bath here. When the time comes we will be looking into professional re-glazing of the tiles. They are in fantastic shape and if re-glazed in timeless white, they will look brand new!

What's this below you ask?
Well it is queen size mattress that arrived via Fed Ex. Not kidding! It is a 12 inch memory foam mattress! I was incredibly fascinated with this.
After being removed from its compression packaging, it gets unrolled and takes up to 72 hours to fully expand! I purchased this after reading amazing reviews and realizing we don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for a comfortable, quality bed.

The frame we got for it is also really cool allowing for stacking under the bed storage units. Perfect for an old house with small bedroom closets! This also came in a small box. I was so pleased that we have another mattress and frame on order for the spare bedroom.
How about a love seat via Fed Ex?
Yup, that's a loveseat in there! Finished product below. It took a little time for the cushions to fluff up too since these were compressed too. It is super chocolaty although the camera did not pick this up. Shopping on a budget does require some work!
The best purchase so far? This washer and dryer pair. This was my first time having a purchase such appliances. Total score! I have never used units so efficient! The reviews I read did not lie!
Anyway that's all for now! It will take time to settle in since both Jim and I got rid of our furniture in our last home sales not realizing we would be buying property again in Massachusetts!

Thank you for stopping by! Wishing you a marvelous week ahead. ~Val

  1. Nice stuff! And there's nothing worse than a frozen pipe. A quick temporary prevention fix is to wrap it in a thick layer of insulation secured by duct tape. But you're right -- get it moved inside the house!

  4. how fun setting up your new home! I remember when we bought our first house and the toilet had a squishy seat (yep it did) ... and the best part was that it was chocolate brown in color? That was an immediate first item we upgraded!

  5. Wow, how fun to have a brand new furniture. I live in a very old building and our pipe were frozen 3 years ago. My hubby had used hair dryer to thaw water.
Now, we use our old newspaper magazines to protect our pipe in a winter time.
    Have a wonderful weekend! :)

  11. Val, a house will definitely keep you busy! I have 3 rooms left to remodel and will be so glad when they're done. LOL Congratulations on the new toilet, mattress and love seat. Pace yourself and take one thing at a time. A house is a never ending project. There is always something to do. Is the house raised? The older homes in New Orleans are raised and when the temp dips to 34 C or below we run a small stream of hot water to prevent pipes freezing. It will save you a lot of money.

    1. I know the projects will be never ending! LOL Most homes up here have a foundation and full basement which we have. However sometimes pipes are brought outside walls which makes no sense for New England. But we can change that! We keep that faucet trickling with water now when it is really cold just in case. :)

  16. It is fun when you buy new things for your home...after almost 7 years in Hemet I'm still waiting for new flooring and couches :0 I like your brown couch!

I have to tell you we tried the veggie balls last week in a sub here's the reviews:

Xavi: after knowing they are called veggie balls he said I bet they taste nasty! after a bite he said hmmm not bad! he ate 1 1/2 balls

Javier: after getting adding his hot sauce (he adds it to mostly anything) he said they're good, he ate the whole thing but said they're good but stick to recipes you know already

Sophia and I: We liked them very much. I will fix them again I guess just for me and her and if Xavi wants to join.

Thanks for the recipe again :)

  20. Nice loveseat. I purchased one of those matresses about 4 years ago. I was surprised when it came rolled up in a box. Still comfortable.
