Recent Botanical Garden Visits

Here is an abundance of lovely flowers varying in color, size, shape, etc. from recent visits to the Riverbanks Botanical Gardens in Columbia, SC.

This one below is my favorite. The camera was really working with me.

Some unique leaves with flowers that contrast the plants greatly.
They like to stand out from the crowd.

Massive hibiscus are always a delight to see. Here is my hand to demonstrate size. These were all that gigantic!

Perhaps the prettiest leaf in nature. I do not know what this is, but they get huge and gorgeous.
These huge pom poms are scattered throughout the butterfly garden adding tons of whimsy.
These tall flower stalks are also playful.
Lastly I am showing the mimosa tree. We see these growing wild along the roads, covered in pink. However we had no idea how neat they would be up close until seeing a few of these at that gardens!

Mimosa comes from its root species but I think it would have been better referred to as a feather tree (just my thoughts).
I hope you enjoyed early summer at the botanical gardens.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

  1. We visited friends recently for an outdoor summer breakfast and what did we start with - a mimosa! And it wasn't the flower either!

  2. I'm curious with the plant with white leaves and yellow flower. That's really unique.

    1. It is a Jacobaea that is referred to as "silver dust". I love the contrast on it when the flowers are in bloom.

  3. I love all, look beautiful...

I guess that first photo and fourth photo (yellow flowers) are attractive to bees.

    Have a wonderful summer

  6. I never knew a mimosa tree looks like that - what pretty feathery blooms. We have several beautiful gardens botanical, in So Cal but I haven't been to any lately. A famous one is Huntington Gardens in Pasadena and then there is the Arboretum in Arcadia and Claremont Botanical gardens which is the closest to me. You've inspired me to go...soon. What I have been doing is stooping by local nurseries and even outside of the grocery store where they keep flats and pots of flowers to sell and sometimes I get pics of some favorites. Happy summer to you.

    1. I hope you are able to go to one of your local botanical gardens soon. It is such a relaxing way to spend some time with nature. Local nurseries are really good for that too. Some of them are so beautifully laid out like you are at fancy gardens! Happy Summer to you too Sandy!

My garden is coming along but will not be the best this yr since I still have not finished moving it from where it was to where it is. Maybe this fall I will get things all in place and it will be beautiful next yr....I HOPE.
