Equitable Arcade Building

The Equitable Arcade Building was the the first indoor mall in Columbia, South Carolina.
It was constructed in 1912.
The style is Renaissance Revival.
It is 2 stories with an L shape.
Terracotta and marble fill the inside.
Since it is on the National Register of Historic Places, it is here to stay.
Today eateries, shops and a barber shop are on the ground level.
The second level has offices and art studios.
Blue Sky is an amazing Columbia artist whose murals and sculptures can be seen throughout the city. This one below is in the arcade.
It is located at 1332 Main Street with another identical entrance on Washington Street.
I hope you enjoyed this stroll through the arcade.

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

  1. It is encouraging to see beautiful historic buildings such as this preserved. I think the State tourist agency should send you a monthly cheque, Val, for promoting its attractions the way you do.

  2. What a cool building. I love the older historic buildings in downtown Nashville and so glad that someone took the time to revamp them when they were falling into distress. They are amazing with such character. The glass and steel buildings today just don't have what those older ones have. Thanks for sharing.

  12. first off - i love the fact that you are in one of the photos in a group whenever you post where you are - it reminds me of "where's waldo". I just love that. And those photos of the mall are so pretty and the artist is amazing. I'm beginning to think you are probably (if not for a cell phone) someone hard to get a hold of by the friends because you are out and about, lol You have a lot of beautiful places to visit so I would be out and about all the time to.
