Flower and Plant Show

We stopped by a recent Flower and Plant Show at the State Farmers Market in Columbia, SC and what a treat!
There were fruit trees.
Below is a lemon tree. I never knew what its flowers were like until seeing this one.
This is a hanging pitcher plant. If you are unfamiliar with these it is a carnivores plant. The insects fly into them for the sweet stuff but the plant closes in on them and that is it for the insect!
This exotic one caught my eye below.
There was plenty of unique decor to choose from.
I was particularly enamored with these whimsically crafted fountains.
There were some really fun air plants which seem to be quite trendy today. Hopefully a permanent trend!
Pods to decorated with using small plants. The coconut shell is such a fun idea.
Definitely a feast for the eyes.
We have tons of baby plants in our yard right now and need to see how they behave before buying more. There is a learning curve here now being in a new climate with many different plants.

Since this is an annual event we be back next year. The prices and selection were fantastic! The experienced shoppers came here with wagons ready to fill up with plants. It was quite an affair!

Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

  1. You obviously had a fine time at the garden centre, so much to see, so much to enjoy. The world of botany never ceases to amaze me. I sometimes look at a square metre or so in the woodlands around us, and I am staggered by the diversity contained in so small an area. There is much to be learned. I took undergraduate plant biology but that dealt only with the technical aspects of plants, cell structure, xylem, phloem, apical meristems etc., but the sheer beauty of wildflowers is what impresses itself in my psyche every day.

    1. I could not agree more! Some wildflowers are so tiny but if you look closely at them, they are stunning.

  7. OMG ..This show look fabulous... I've never seen a pitcher plant... they're quite interesting. I used to own a lemon tree and can confirm to how beautiful the blossom is ..plus ... it's delicate scent is heavenly...I think it's my favorite tree. The crafted fountains made me smile... that's one way to recycle broken musical instruments and make them sing again. We take the wonder of plants and flowers for granted ... They really are little miracles of science and beauty that we should learn from... This was a super post...Thank You for sharing ...Hugs

    1. The carnivores plants are fun to observe (and a little bit gross). My husband has a collection of them but we don't have any hanging ones.

  13. Wow! this is so amazing, I love those Air plants, yup they are everywhere on the Internet, quite popular, I got a few a few years back thinking that they were easy to maintain but unfortunately they didn't last long. Thanks for sharing these lovely photos!
