It is official. We now have an art walk in our city!
My other half and I checked it out after its recent unveiling to the public (yes that is Jim heading towards the trail).
It runs along the river in the old railroad bead that used to go to Boston between 1851 until 1931 (the train is now located on the other side of the river).
It starts with a gigantic wind chime featuring the city scape on top.
This trail is being used by walkers, runner and bikers.
Cameras and emergency boxes are located along the trail for safety and to keep the bad guys out.
This piece below symbolizes Haverhill with its nearby bridge, a sturgeon (a river resident), its founding year of 1640, and a shoe. This city was a shoe manufacturing hub back in the day.
This is a peaceful walk away from the hustle and bustle that would be a relaxing place to read a book (which we witnessed a gentleman doing).
The river here is not all that picturesque however if you stop and take a moment, you notice beauty. I do love fuzzy things that grow by water.
I hope you enjoyed our little outing. We love seeing improvements like this to our city which has been making quite a comeback in recent years!
Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

Cemetery in Autumn
Before the leaves really started falling, I took a stroll through the local cemetery.
A peaceful place to take in fall foliage.
There was plenty of color.
I simply adore this tall evergreen.
Thank you for stopping by. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. ~Val

Autumn on Lake Pentucket
When we moved into our new home I thought I would be strolling down the street regularly to enjoy lovely Lake Pentucket (AKA Round Pond).
Do I? Of course not!
This autumn stroll was a reminder that I need to take more breaks!
It is so much more beautiful in the Fall than I imagined it would be.
The peaceful trail goes around the entire lake.
Looking up is a treat.
The colors are perfection.
Sideways trees!
I hope you enjoyed this autumn stroll as much as I did.
Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

World War 1 Memorial
This park is about a 5 minute walk from our house.
This World War I memorial was built in 1956 to honor those from our city who were lost in this war.
Each of their names is beautifully displayed.
The center is inscribed with:
Victory
In the days of triumph and peace it is wise to remember the cost of victory. Let us resolve that the sacrifices made by these men shall not be in vain. Let us, the living, pledge ourselves to preserve and protect for their children and ours the freedom and liberties for which they gave their lives.
This is The Hiker created by Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson to commemorate the American soldiers who fought in the Spanish-American War.
Over 50 copies of this sculpture can be seen across the United States.
The park has wonderfully kept grounds that change through the season. These photos were taken at the beginning of the summer.
Decorated with lots of flags.
Of course it also boasts pretty flowers. I love these below with purple fuzzies.
Well I hoped you enjoyed this bit of green space in our city.

Crystal Gorge Conservation Area
The Crystal Gorge Conservation Area is in our city bordering New Hampshire. It is perfect living in a place that is as much city as it is country!
Consisting of 65 acres, there are plenty of woodsy trails to enjoy for a peaceful nature walk.
I would not recommend this walk in the summertime like we did due to all the bug action! This is a mistake I seem to make every summer craving a nature walk.
So our walk became partly a jog to keep from the pests.
It is very hilly and rocky making for a great workout!
I would love to come back in the Fall or explore another area of this conservation land.
This is part of Crystal Lake where some of the city's drinking water comes from.
The part near us was covered in darling lily pads and water lilies!
I hope you enjoyed this little bit of New England. Thank you for stopping by! ~Val

An uprooted tree. I love how woodsy it is.
Part of these trails are on ledges overlooking the gorge. I attempted to photograph the gorge for effect but the photos just don't do the land formations justice!I would love to come back in the Fall or explore another area of this conservation land.

Tattersall Farm Part 2
As a follow up to last week's post here is a bit of the nature trails to enjoy at Tattersall Farm in Haverhill, MA.
It starts in a field with mowed portions to walk through. It doesn't look like much but it is so peaceful. All you hear is birds!
It is a sea of buttercups and dandelions. Also these things:
Anyone know what those are?
Then there is the peaceful woods. The trail looks like this in parts.
Now I love trees. However this old oak is one of those creepy looking ones that looks like it will come alive!
There are streams.
Boardwalks.
And my favorite woodsy thing besides moss, ferns.
Coming back out of the woods to civilization behind the farmhouse.
I hope you enjoyed this New England nature walk!
Thank you for stopping by. ~Val
