Marginal Way

Last Maine post.  😊

This was a walk on Marginal Way.

Located in Ogunquit, this shoreline footpath is a little more than 1 mile long.

It connects Ogunquit Beach to Perkins Cove. 

It has plenty of nooks and crannies for beach lovers to enjoy away from the typical beach scenery.

The walk actually started conveniently by the hotel we stayed at.

So at the end we stopped for cocktails and took a lazy bus back! So relaxing and perfect. Although you can't see from the photos, the path was loaded with people.

Hartley Mason Reservation

While taking a ride up the coast of Maine we stumbled upon the lovely Hartley Mason Reservation.

This area was developed by Hartley Mason in the 1800s who had a vision for this beautiful coastal location. There is a beautiful beach yonder that was being enjoyed even though the weather was not at it best.

He built a number of summer homes (now gone) here for guests to enjoy. 

Back in Victorian times, bathing suits were not allowed to be worn off the beach so this property also included many changing rooms to keep within the social norms of the time.

 

Arriving at the park you are greeted by this whimsical piece of art titled Pleasure Ground by Sumner Winebaum (my favorite part of this site).

It is full of scenes you typically see on a beach set on this gorgeous rock.

Full of charm!

I just have to show our hotel bathroom as it is like nothing I have ever seen before with all this ceramic lilac and mint!

I am guessing these pieces were made for hotels back in art deco days since I have never seen these colors in a home bathroom. The toilet tank was extremely large. Even the faucet handles had the matching lilac details! It is so much more fun staying in a place with character rather than a boring hotel.

A Cliff Walk in Maine

This cliff walk is located in York, Maine.

There was an "enter at your own risk" sign! It has seen better days but I suppose it would be quite costly to repair.

Although overcast, it was a stunning walk.

As it went on it became treacherous, particularly with no more guardrail and a rocky terrain to prevent one from falling off!

There are some cool homes on this walk that make you feel as though you are in Europe rather than the US.

There were even a couple of cannons used as lawn ornaments. A unique choice for decor!

I found this yellow moss to be quite gorgeous!

You can't even see the ocean in that last one since it was so grey outside! It was there though. The sea was gentle that day but there was still the beautiful sound of it in the air.

Multi Gemstone Necklace                                   
My favorite thing to do with gemstone beads is mix them all up with no rhyme or reason! Here is my latest based at that style. This is a 33.5 inch necklace that can be worn as 1 strand or doubled up for the look of 2!

Autumn

This is an Autumn inspired post. Although I have not had a chance to leaf peep this year I did take a few photos around town.

It was a sunny morning when I took some time to smell the roses…so to speak! The foliage was reflecting on the Spicket River beautifully.

The burning bushes are burning!

I love pine needle covered ground!

There were fall tone ladybugs mulling about my house this past week…inside and out. This little guy was on the siding.

Earthquake

So many people in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine experienced a first this past week and that was a magnitude 4.0 earthquake which is considered moderate! Its epicenter was in Maine. I have lived in MA my entire life (almost 40 years) and have never felt the ground move this way!!! The house shook for an extended period of time like a massive freight train was coming through the house!!!! That noise that accompanied this was quite unpleasant as well!  I am guessing it was silent outside but inside you hear everything vibrating. While this was happening it was a total paranoia moment as I had no clue what was going on…was the house going to blow up, is a plane crashing, is it Armageddon, etc.?

After it stopped I looked outside and things looked ok. At that point I realized it must have been an earthquake! My neighbors next door were outside so I opened the window and shouted out “did you guys feel that”? Well that confirmed that it was an earthquake and we would all be fine. This also gave me comfort that I was not the only one freaked out! I will be perfectly content never feeling an earthquake again! Funny thing about this was that many people felt nothing. So strange. I guess it depends on where you are and if you are inside or outside.

Leaving you with my rose. The roses have gone to flower heaven. I took this photo at their end. This was the perfect bloom. I love how the petals changed color with some purple edges. It even maintained its velvety feel when the ends were starting to brown!
